The Treehouse
Escape to a custom-built, 100% sustainable off-grid treehouse on 23 private wooded acres in Western North Carolina. Perfect for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those looking for a romantic retreat, this unique stay offers long-range mountain views, an eco-friendly design powered by solar energy, a cozy wood stove, and fresh mountain spring water. Enjoy an exhilarating outdoor shower and a homebiogas toilet with a scenic view. Thoughtfully designed with handcrafted woodwork, a charming kitchenette, copper finishes, and plush organic linens, this treehouse takes glamping to a whole new level of luxury.
HURRICANE HELENE: Our Treehouse is fine from the Hurricane and is accessible by roads. The towns we are closest to, Waynesville, Maggie Valley, and Asheville, are back open and accepting respectful visitors.
Meet the Highland Cows
Guests have exclusive access to our adorable Highland cattle herd—Moonshine, Martini, Mojito, & Malibu. These friendly “cocktail cows” love attention, and you’re welcome to pet, brush, and feed them treats.
Winter Glamping Experience
From late November to mid-March, the treehouse transitions into a true off-grid glamping retreat. To prevent freezing, the water lines are shut down, but we provide 5-gallon water jugs for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, along with rinse-free bathing wipes. The toilet still functions above 20°F, with a backup port-o-potty available just in case. Heat is provided by a wood stove or a propane heater. Rates are lower in winter to reflect these seasonal changes—if you’re seeking an off-grid adventure, this is it!
Location & Nearby Attractions
Located in Canton, NC, near Waynesville and just west of Asheville, the treehouse sits at an elevation of 3,100 feet, rising to 3,700 at the ridge. Explore nearby trails, visit local farms and markets, or dine at charming restaurants. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Pisgah National Forest, and the scenic Pigeon River for tubing and fly fishing. The property itself offers peace, seclusion, and the option to disconnect completely from the world.
Sustainable & Thoughtful Design
We designed the treehouse to be both luxurious and environmentally conscious. Every detail, from the organic bedding and bamboo sheets to the handcrafted furniture made from local and salvaged wood, was chosen with sustainability in mind. The kitchen features a propane cooktop, a beautiful copper sink, and all the essentials for off-grid cooking, including a cooler for food storage.
The Off-Grid Experience
While this retreat is beautiful, it’s not for everyone! Expect some wildlife, rustic charm, and an eco-friendly lifestyle. There’s no WiFi, and power is limited to essentials like lighting and phone charging. Hair dryers and other high-energy appliances won’t work here. If you love nature, sustainability, and a peaceful escape, you’ll feel right at home.
Wildlife & Safety
Being surrounded by miles of forest means encountering wildlife is possible. Guests have spotted deer, bears, coyotes, bobcats, and more. Be mindful of food storage, use the provided bear-proof trash bin, and make your presence known while exploring. Safety is key, but there’s no need to worry—just be prepared and enjoy the experience!
This treehouse isn’t just a place to stay; it’s an opportunity to experience sustainable, off-grid living in the most magical way. Whether you’re hiking, relaxing, or bonding with the Highland cows, your stay will be one to remember!

About the Owner
We are Chris & Jenna Pelayo, and we were both born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii. Now living in Summerville, “FlowerTown”, South Carolina, which is right outside of Charleston and where sweet tea was born! There is a lot of history in this little town, and we bought a piece of it. Now we are proud owners of an 1870’s Colonial Farmhouse fixer upper built by a well known Southern “Ohana”. This home was kept in that family for generations up until the last decade where it sat empty. With our love of renovating and DIY, we are taking this house on project by project and bringing it back to life. Our other passion is our animals, we have dog-kids and an urban farm of dwarf goats, mini-Scottish Highland cows, fancy chickens, honey bees, and barn cats! So Flowertown Charm started with our blog, but we now host stays in our home as a private BnB, as well as make & sell farm goods, host goat yoga classes, farm tours, & paint and wine classes with goats! And our newest adventure, building an off-grid sustainable treehouse on 23 acres in Western North Carolina. We cherish the life we have built together, doing what we love, and sharing it with you!Amenities
